We are delighted that you have made a commitment to Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School for the future and welcome you to our school. At Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School we have high standards and expectations to support all our pupils to achieve their very best in both their academic and personal development.
At this continuing challenging time for all members of our school community we acknowledge that the transition into Year 7 has not been as straightforward as any of us would like. This new section of our website will hopefully be useful to you as new parents/carers of our new Year 7 intake.
Transferring to Secondary School is an important milestone in a pupil’s life and at BHGS we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible whilst establishing continuity from Year 6 to 7 with a consistency of approach and challenge.
As your daughter has been given a place at BHGS, you would normally have been invited to our 欢迎 Evening on Tuesday 7th July 2020, where a comprehensive information pack would have been distributed to all new parents/carers containing all the essential information about the school and the important forms that need to be completed and returned to the school. This has now been sent via post to all our new parents/carers due to the current situation.
During May and June, pupils would have received a visit from the Head of Year 7, Miss Parkin or from another member of the transition team where we would explain what it is like to be a Bishop’s pupil, the expectations and ethos of the school. As we have not been able to undertake these visits, we have been speaking to our feeder Primary Schools and exchanging as much information as possible to get an accurate educational ‘picture’ of your daughter.
We have included a Pupil Transition Booklet in the New 父母/Carers pack which we would encourage your daughter to read and to take part in the transition activities and Library competition at the back of the booklet. Your daughter will also be sent a ‘Postcard to my Form Tutor’ activity in the next couple of weeks which we also hope that she will complete and bring with her to her first day at BHGS in September.
We have been looking very carefully at the information sent to us by Primary Schools and making follow up calls to them if necessary. This has been very useful when we have been considering the Tutor group your daughter will be placed into. She will find this out on her first day in September.
Thursday 3rd September 2020 (full details to be confirmed)
During the first day at BHGS, all Year 7 pupils benefit from a variety of Tutor group activities and also learning about life at secondary school. Following on from this, Form tutors, subject staff and learning support staff monitor pupils to identify any concerns with settling in or accessing the curriculum. Any concerns are dealt with swiftly and strategies are put in place to allay any fears, and deal with any problems as they arise.
Should you have any comments or questions about transition to BHGS please do not hesitate to contact Mr Dudley, Deputy Headteacher, who will be pleased to help you.
